The Romanian Student Society of Surgery is a non-governmental organisation, sustained by a group of medical students who share the same passion for surgery and are driven by a common goal: to make sure that their community has all the tools it requires to provide the society with elite practitioners in the years to follow. Since its founding in 2004, our Society kept evolving and reaching more and more students, growing a strong, elaborate and versatile team, across the entire country.
SURGICON represents our biggest project so far, and with an successful first edition, organising the second one, full online and losing our signature hands-on workshops, represented a true challenge, but one we are very proud to say we overpassed.
How to register
Join SURGICON 2021
The only way to register to SURGICON 2021 is through this website, by creating a personal account!
After you click “Create an account” three easy steps will follow.
How do I know which participation pack is right for me?
When deciding upon a participation pack, the first thing you must consider is whether you will be able to attend the congress in a physical form and participate at workshops held in Bucharest. If the answer is yes, then you should choose one of the Physical packs. If you are unsure of your travelling possibilities, we recommend that you opt for an Online pack.
The second thing that is important to decide upon is if you want to be actively involved in the Scientific Competition. We highly encourage you to do so, as presenting at a congress is a crucial experience for a medical student. If you want this experience, you should register as an ACTIVE participant.
Switching your pack
Online pack to physical pack
If you wish to switch your participation to a physical one, you will have to access the extras section of your account, select switching your pack, upgrade and choose online to physical. Select the physical pack that you wish to switch to and pay the price difference between your online pack fee and the current fee (i.e early/regular/late fee) of your physical pack of choice.
Physical pack to online pack
If you are no longer able to come in person at the congress, you can choose to attend online by downgrading your physical pack to the corresponding online pack. (i.e A to a, B to b; Premium to b). You will receive the price difference between the two packs minus a handling fee of 15 €. (20€ in the regular fee period, 25€ in the late fee period respectively). In order to downgrade you will have to access the extras section of your account, select switching your pack and choose downgrade from physical to online.
After the registration period is closed, you will not be able to switch your pack to online*, nor be elligible for a refund.
* The only exception to this rule is applied to physical participants who are impacted by COVID-19 restrictions or are themselves positive for the infection or in quarantine. If they provide proof for their unique situation (such as a positive PCR test) by sending it to registrations@surgicon.ro, then their Account will be converted to an Online account. No refund will be given.
To a different online pack/physical pack
Conversion between packs, whether they are physical or online, is possible only if the participant wishes to switch to a higher value pack. For example someone with pack A may switch to B or Premium, someone with pack B may switch ONLY to Premium and someone with a Premium pack will be unable to switch. The same logic applies to Online packs.
In order to upgrade your pack, go to the extras section of your account, select switching your pack, upgrade and choose online to physical. Select the pack that you wish to switch to and pay the price difference between your online pack fee and the current fee (i.e early/regular/late fee) of your physical pack of choice.
Active to passive
Before the abstract submission deadline
If you wish to switch your account to a Passive one, you can do so by accessing the Extras section of your account, selecting Switching your pack and choosing Active to Passive. After this step, you will have to pay an additional fee amounting to the price difference between the Active and Passive pack of your selected choice.
- Keep in mind that prices vary during the registration period, therefore, if you have paid the fee for an Active pack in the early registration period but you have decided upon switching in the regular registration period, the price difference will be higher.
After the abstract submission deadline
If you do not submit an abstract, your account will be converted to a Passive participant account. You have until the 8th of October (deadline of the late registration period) to pay the difference for the late fee Passive participation pack.
By not paying the price difference before the mentioned deadline you acknowledge the fact that your account will automatically become inactive and your fee is non-refundable.
If the abstract you submit is NOT accepted in the Scientific Competition, you can either attend the Congress as a Passive Participant or ask for a refund.
- become a Passive Participant – you will have to pay the price difference between the Active fee and the Passive participation pack fee, until the 8th of October 2021 (deadline of the late registration period);
- this price difference will correspond to the period you have created your Active account, and it will amount to 5€ for online packs and 10€ for physical packs.
- ask for a full refund – contact us at this email address: treasurer@surgicon.ro.
If you neither pay for Passive participation, nor ask for a refund until the 8th October 2021 (deadline of the late registration period), your account becomes inactive and your fee is non-refundable.
Passive to active
You can update your account from Passive to Active by accessing the Extras section of your account, selecting Switching your pack and choosing Passive to Active, as long as you take the responsibility of submitting an abstract before the Submission Deadline (17th of September 2021). After the list of accepted abstracts is announced, if your abstract was not accepted, your account will remain Passive as it was initially. If your abstract is accepted, then you can receive the money difference between Active and Passive of your selected pack as a refund.

Co-authors of a scientific paper may register as active participants only if they are Presenting authors of a different scientific paper. Otherwise, they can be Passive participants or non-attending.
- Participants in the Debate Session of the Scientific Competition should apply in teams of two. Each of the two participants of the team should create an account for themselves and register as Active participants. Both of them should be attending in the same form (physical/online).
Presenting Authors have the responsibility to send an abstract before the 17th sept For more information about the Scientific competition and abstract submission guidelines, check the Student Scientific Session section.
An Active participant has access to all of the conferences and activities included in the corresponding Passive participant pack. The accepted abstracts will be published in the Abstract Book of the congress.

Everyone that wishes so! There are no requirements in order to become an ambassador.
HOW do I become an ambassador?
If you decide to become an ambassador, please use the contact form*. One of our volunteers will then contact you to provide you a referral code. This code must be sent to all international participants you convince to participate. Upon their registration, they will have to enter the code in the Registration Form (under the “Ambassador code” section). This will certify their participation in your name.
We will also provide you with a personalized Facebook cover and an online poster to share on your social media platforms, in order to spread the word about your ambassadorship and make it more visible.
How do I receive MY REWARD?
Your ambassador work will start from the moment you receive the referral code. You will have until the 17th of September 2021 (deadline regular) to gather as many participants from other countries and international medical institutions as you wish. Whenever you decide you have convinced enough people to participate in the Congress, before the deadline, you should contact the person who sent you the referral code.
How do I use my DISCOUNT VOUCHER?
We will verify the number of people who registered using it, as well as their registration details and, if everything is in order, we will send you a voucher code that will contain the discount according to the number and types of participants you brought. With the code, you can go to the website and create an account of your own. In the Payment section, you will use the code in order to complete your payment and validate your account. The discount will be applied to the current package fee at the time of payment. Please note that the voucher code is a single-use one.
If, by the deadline, you do not contact us, we will collect all data and contact you to inform you of how many points you managed to gather and offer you the obtained voucher!
