„Instabil” in Romanian or „Instabiele elementen” in Dutch is a novel mean to bring more light from a dark period in Romania’s recent history. Combined with individual stories, the meta structure of the novel depicts the existence of an era and its specific elements raging from personal to universal. After all, what is literature about? And what is translation about? Young translator and already with an important portofolio, Charlotte Van Rooden contributes to bringing under the reading lamplight of Dutch and Flemish readers the emergent Romanian language literature.

Presented in Amsterdam this Sunday 23rd March, the novel „Instabiele elementen” by Ruxandra Burcescu, translated by Charlotte Van Rooden, was in the company of the novel „Kinderland” by Liliana Corobca, translated by Jan Willem Bos, in a musical and pious atmosphere at the Dominicuskerk.
